Don’t get caught

It’s a trap, and you can get caught in it just like most other people do. But at least now you’ve been warned:

If you begin your day by checking email, you’re going to get snagged and dragged into stuff that isn’t on your high-priority to-do list.

Email can wait until you’ve devoted at least your first 60-90 minutes to the important stuff. When you do read it, look at the clock and decide when you’ll be done. Then stop. And close the app. And shut off notifications.

Email, FB, Twitter, etc. can be great, but they can also be like yipping dogs that constantly interrupt the precious flow of conscious thought. If you could translate the doggie language (or the subtext of many emails, posts and tweets), you’d discover that all they’re saying is:

Hey!
Hey!
Hey you!
Hey!

Worthless.

Don’t get caught. Take control of your inputs and you’ll be able to focus and get some amazing things done.

Have we met?

Have we met… all of our goals for 2011?

It’s almost the end of the year, and yes, I’ve met many of the goals I set back in December of 2010. If you can say the same, then take a moment to celebrate your progress. Without goals, many dreams simply fade away, forgotten. When you’ve set and met a goal, your dream is that much closer to coming true. That’s worth celebrating!

If you didn’t make all the goals you set, you can still rejoice in the progress you made. The mere process of goal-setting takes you places you would never be if you’d just “gone with the flow.”

Oh – you’re saying you didn’t set any goals for 2011? That might be why your dreams aren’t coming true. As of now, they’re just, well… dreams, wishes, imaginations. Wouldn’t you like to transform them into realities? Setting goals will begin that process for you.

If you’d like help with formulating your goals and plans, I’d be glad to assist. My LifePlan Personal Coaching package includes a comprehensive 7-part goal-setting tool and two hours of 1-on-1 coaching, all for a minimal investment. Isn’t it time you invested in yourself – your future?

Working together with a coach will help you to develop a realistic, workable plan to fulfill not just your goals and dreams but your purpose in life. And now – before the new year arrives – is a great time to put your plans into place. I hope you’ll consider LifePlan Personal Coaching.

The best leaders need these

Coaching skills!

Jack Welch said that “in the future, people who are not coaches will not be promoted.” After years of command and control management and supervision, I finally learned how to coach employees. The result: powerful partnerships, solid relationships, innovative solutions, and self-motivation. Every manager or supervisor needs to learn to coach. They’ll get more things done – and done better – in the organization through coaching than with any other leadership skill.

These days, “coaching” is getting a bad name. The other day I was in a big-box store and overheard two employees talking about another coworker who was performing poorly. “He’s gonna get coached for that,” one said. The way she said it, you could have replaced “coached” with “spanked!”

Our coaching is totally different. We train leaders to help their staff develop their full potential. Coaching focuses on a successful future, helping employees and teams find great solutions to the challenges they face. A supervising leader with coaching skills listens, asks great questions and gives support and encouragement. He or she also challenges the employee or team and holds them accountable to act on their own self-chosen goals. The discovery process is a partnership, but the employees set their own course for successfully meeting corporate and personal goals.

If you’re not getting the results you want from your staff, learn how to be a coach. You’ll soon see renewed energy, creativity and, best of all, results.

Ready to see a dramatic change in your business or organization? We now offer Coaching Skills for Leaders as an onsite workshop for your management and supervisory staff. Email me for details!
